Dogecoin co -founder says he can’t ‘understand’ calls for the joke crypto he created in 3 hours to reach $ 1 – Dogecoin (DOGE/USD)

Dogecoin DOGE/USD Co -founder Billy Markus in an open letter on Reddit this week addressed the increased interest in the cryptocurrency he created as a joke.

Markus was an engineer at IBM At the time he created Dogecoin, beside Adobe engineer Jackson Palmer. Marcus is now working as a software engineer at an educational company in the Bay Area, he told Bloomberg on Wednesday.

About Musk: “I’m half detached, but it’s strange that something I was doing in a few hours is now part of the internet culture,” Dogecoin co-founder, who left the project back in 2015, told Bloomberg.

“It’s funny to see Elon Musk tell about it. It feels silly, but there’s a huge boom behind,” Markus said.

That Tesla Inc. TSLA CEO may have been the biggest driving force behind the latest increase in the Dogecoin award with its frequent tweets.

Doge for $1? While social media users, especially on Twitter and the Reddit community Satoshistreetbets, continues the calls to pump the cryptocurrency, the goal they aim for Dogecoin is to reach $ 1.

Markus noted that Dogecoin for $ 1 would take its market value over the market value of “actual companies that provide services to millions” such as Boeing, starbucks, American Express Company and his former employer IBM.

“Deserve Dogecoin it? It’s not something I can understand, let alone answer,” Markus said.

Dogecoin as a force for good: Markus was enchanted over the cryptocurrency shortly after he had created it when the original community that built up around Dogecoin took a direction he couldn’t agree with.

Nevertheless, ‘DOGE MOTHER’ hopes, as some in society call him that Dogecoin “can be a force for the good.”

“Pump and dumping, widespread greed, scams, bad faith actors, demands from others, hype without research, exploitation of others – it’s all worthless,” Marcus said.

“Worse than worthless, frankly, bringing more negativity to an already difficult world,” the Dogecoin creator added. “When I see something like this – and I’ve seen plenty of it over the last 7 years – I’m not mad, just disappointed.”

Nevertheless, Marcus noted the good causes the Dogecoin community has served over the years, including “helping build water wells in Africa, helping connect service dogs and children, and silly and fun causes like helping send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Olympics, or sponsoring a Nascar driver.”

Price action: Dogecoin was trading 11% lower at $0.06 at press time on Thursday.
