Musk says Twitter is launching gold, gray cubes alongside the blue verified badge

Nov 25 (Reuters) – Twitter will roll out verified gold and gray ticks when it relaunches the coveted blue check service next Friday, Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a tweet, after holding off on the rollout earlier this week.

“Gold check for corporations, gray check for governments, blue for individuals (celebrities or not). Painful but necessary,” Musk said in a tweet.

All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the check is activated, Musk said.

“Individuals may have a secondary small logo to show they belong to an organization if they are verified as such by that organization,” Musk said in another tweet, adding that he will provide a longer explanation next week.

The company had paused its recently announced $8 subscription service as fake accounts grew, and had said the coveted blue check subscription service would be relaunched on November 29. Read more

The blue tick was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, celebrities, journalists and other public figures.
